Curious Yellow Butt Bird

Sry for the lack of pictures... Saw something really sweet on the way to work today. When Luise was here a month ago, I showed her one of my favorite israeli birds of the family of Bul Bul (which is also a great austrian noise rock band) - when I showed them to Luise I did not know their name, and I called them "yellow butt bird". They are as common as Captain Jack Sparrow here.

Anyway on the way to work I saw one of these birds trying to fight/romance his counterpart in the rear mirror of a car. Was kind of funny to watch. He tried all the tricks! Attacking from above, from behind the mirror, flying a charge, and he did not give up. Maybe I'll see him on the way home. Here is a picture I posted earlier - unfortunately the yellow but is not really visible.

Caktus - Thorns & Sun

Alessandra & Kevin took me for a nice trip around Rehovot, we started with the cactus garden in Holon. I always struggle with shooting flowers, but somehow I feel a lot more comfortable with a cactus - they are beautiful - so some flowers for mothersday!

Then we went to the design museum [click], with some very nice projects e.g.
sicksugar, move around

We walked on to rishon beach and north...

... until we reached Old Jaffo.

All in all a very nice trip, got to find a paper now for journal club tomorrow.

Neighbourhood

Did you guys ever notice, that many birds are divas? You can watch them and they enjoy it, but as soon as you point a camera at them, and they have a bad day, they just fly off?
So I played a game with this little fellow - I always knew when he was there, sitting on the cable just 1-2 m away from my window, because he clacked with his beak, a bit like a storch, but different sound.
So I took the camera and he flew away, just before I could get the shot. In the end I hid behind the sunblends, and got it. I won't win a contest, that's for sure, but it became a matter of personal pride.

/edit (4/6/11) I already have a better picture, which i'd like to share here. this little fellow is a white-throated king fisher btw and i've seen his brothers & sisters in yardenit today.

Rehovot - Special

After Tel Aviv here comes the long awaited Rehovot street art special - actually the place is really nice, but somehow it's a desert for street art. Some of you may already know that I do not consider tags as art...
So here are my favorite two pieces of all of Rehovot. They are both funny, although one is rather tragically funny, and the other one might just be the truth...
